"to lucasta, Going to the wars" by richard lovelace
This poem is very short but it filled with meaning. the diction is quiet simple and pretty easy to understand. in this poem the speaker talks about "flying to arms" which i believe means the war is avalaible with open arms; arms having a double meaning one weaponry and arms of people. the speaker of the poem is talking about a man leaving his lover to go to war. the speaker talks about the stronger faith of war over his lover; the stronger faith is that the war will always lover him back by giving him courage and the honor to fight. this poem is a good representation of the saying carpe diem meaning "seize the day" because the man wants to live his life to fullest and live for the moment by going to fight in war and not wait for his lover.

I agree with you Madison, I think there is so much meaning to this poem. I think this poem is all about honor and how people may love some woman and others love war. This man is telling the woman that he loves her but he has to go off to war because he wants to do one more thing in his life. He wants to "seize the day" just like you said. I think you hit the meaning right on.
when i read this poem, i felt that the man left the woem to go to war even though he liked her alot. i also feel that he left to war after seeing her,and or as to he left to war from her. i also feel that the man rathered went to war then to stay with his girl, because he knows that she will be waiting for him once he comes back.
